Le palais de Sans-Souci est l’élément principal d’un ensemble architectural comprenant divers édifices qui répondait à la nécessité de concentrer autour de la résidence royale l’essentiel des fonctions administratives de la nouvelle monarchie créée en 1811. Entouré d’un massif montagneux couvert d’une végétation luxuriante, le Palais, ses dépendances, les casernes, ateliers, résidences et différents bâtiments d’état sont groupés en amphithéâtre sur une superficie d’environ 8 ha. Le site de Sans-Souci fait partie du Parc National Historique, Citadelle, Sans-Souci, Ramiers, classé Patrimoine de l’Humanité en 1982
